This bamboo, ไผ่บงหวาน (phai bong wan), Bambusa burmanica, forms a dense clump of about 8 m in height when fully grown. The young shoots of the stem and twigs can be eaten raw. Two- and three-year-old stems can be used to make tools (e.g. handles) for house and garden. The plant is suitable for planting as a hedge or privacy screen and, with its dense upper branches and leaves, is a good nesting place for birds.
