Fresh Palatable BAMBOO SHOOTS Had Been Available for FREE During the 2024 Bamboo Shooting Season.

The last fresh bamboo shoots we harvested were offered on 8 October; these and all previously offered bamboo shoots were free. Now the bamboo shoot season is coming to an end. This month, fresh bamboo shoots from only Dendrocalamus asper, ไผ่ตง (phai tong), can still be harvested. Please contact us if you are interested in these bamboo shoots.

From 3 June 2024 until the end of the bamboo shooting season in late October, we at Baan Sammi offered fresh bamboo shoots of various species for FREE every TUESDAY morning. The shoots were displayed on the bamboo shelf in front of the main gate of the Baan Sammi property from 5:00 p.m. onward, where anyone could collect them. Initially, on Tuesday, the bamboo shoots were put on two stone banks within the property, next to the main entrance door of house number 79, from the morning until 5 p.m. People from outside needed to ring the doorbell (of house number 79, not 79/1!), and we opened the door and people could get in to receive bamboo shoots. Tenants of Baan Sammi could just come to get bamboo shoots, best before 5 p.m.

In the first week of October, you can harvest 4-6 bamboo shoots of Dendrocalamus farinosus, ไผ่แป้งจีนใต้ (phai paeng chin tai) yourself. The bamboo shoots are 9-12 cm thick.

Result: By 6 October, all the fresh bamboo shoots of this species had been taken away; none were left.

On Wednesday, 25 September, several green papayas were offered for free. Sponsor: Mr. Jan.

The cultivar name of this papaya is 'Holland', an F1 hybrid,
which is also called Holland Papaya or Malaysian Papaya.

Result: By noon the next day, all the papayas had been taken away; none were left.

On Tuesday, 24 September, bamboo shoots were exceptionally not harvested and therefore not offered because part of the property was flooded.

These fresh bamboo shoots were offered free of charge on 17 September, 10:00 a.m.
The species: over 80 shoots of ไผ่เลี้ยงดำ (phai liang dam), ×Thyrsocalamus liang 'Dam'.

Result: At 5:45 p.m. the same day, 49 bamboo shoots remained;
at 7:30 a.m. the next day, 19 bamboo shoots were left;
by 10:40 a.m., all the remaining bamboo shoots had been taken away, none were left.

On Tuesday, 10 September, bamboo shoots were exceptionally not harvested and therefore not offered because it rained continuously.

For a few days from 30 July onwards, we offer several bamboo shoots of Gigantochloa marga which you can harvest yourself. These shoots are edible, but they must be boiled twice or three times before they are eaten.

Result: By early September, all bamboo shoots of Gigantochloa marga were harvested and taken away, there were none left.

By 5:00 p.m., 6 shoots of ×Thyrsocalamus liang were taken, leaving 7; 1 shoot of an intergeneric hybrid species Bambusa × Dendrocalamus was taken, leaving 0.

Result at 5:00 p.m.: still available are 1 shoot of Thyrsostachys siamensis (Phai Ruak, ไผ่รวก), and
7 shoots of ×Thyrsocalamus liang (Phai Liang, ไผ่เลี้ยง).

Result of the next day at 7:40 a.m.: all remaining bamboo shoots were taken away,
there were none left.
